    Yellow Gum timber (Eucalyptus leucoxylon) is a medium sized hardwood of limited availability. The heartwood is pale brown, with yellow or pink tints. It is found in central and western Victoria extending into southern South Australia.

    The sapwood of Yellow Gum is distinctively paler and to 25mm wide. Texture is medium, with the grain usually interlocked. Often producing an attractive fiddleback figure.

    Green density is 1200 kg/m3. Air dried density is about 1010 kg/m3. Due to Yellow Gum's density it sands and polishes to a superb finish. Yellow Gum is slow to dry with little de-grade. Shrinkage is about 3% radial and 6% tangential.

    Due to its close grain and density it sands and polishes to a superb finish. Yellow Gum timber is available in various grades with fiddleback figure.

    Yellow Gum timber has smooth bark and is slow growing. The slow growth rate creates a very hard, dense timber with very durable properties. It can be sanded to an excellent finish, with the natural colour coming through with limited staining. Sometimes found with Red Ironbark on less fertile soils.

    Yellow Gum timber is available in limited amounts. Produces furniture with life-time value, which improves with age. Yellow Gum is relatively easy to work with both hand and machine tools.
