  • Yellow Box timber

    Yellow Box timber (Eucalyptus melliodora) is a medium sized hardwood growing on the better soils of the tablelands and inland slopes in NSW, also found in Victoria and Queensland. The heartwood of Yellow Box is a pale yellow-brown.

    The sapwood is paler and distinct. Texture is moderately fine and even. Grain is usually interlocked.

    Often produces an attractive fiddleback figure. Green density is about 1300kg m3 air dried density about 1100 kg m3. Due to the density of Yellow Box Timber it sands and polishes to a superb finish. Slow to dry but not much degrade. Shrinkage is about 3% radial, 6% tangential.
